New Handset Details Emerge

10/01/05:

Sprint PCS

1. Flash GUI might be here faster than you think. It is a real possibility that the A920/A940 will ship with it. You will also be able to skin the media player/visualizations.

2. Samusung SPH-A960: Flip with everything under the sun, including a QVGA and 2MP camera (up from 1.3). OLED/TF/EV-DO remain in the mix.

3. Sanyo SCP-5700: Flip with everything under the sun, including a QVGA, and 2MP camera. Major emphasis on data, as it will come equipped with Bluetooth, WiFi, and EV-DO.

4. Sprint seems to be looking a second 5MP from Samsung, this time with an optical zoom, the SPH-V7800. This is more of a rumor, but still holds some merit.

Hey there Tou, glad to see your still out there giving us the much needed Samsung info. From what I have seen is that it is more likely we will be getting the SCH7800 rather than the SCH250. I sure am hoping we get some sort of version of this phone by years end. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for the info.

Hmm, I'm liking the phones that seemingly will come out. The 5700 seems like that it may be ther uber-nice Sanyo phone that is coming out.... It'd be cool to check out the Flash-based GUIs. Thanks for the update!

Oh yeah, if Sprint gets the SPH-7800, then that'd rock since it is a Candy Bar! (from the pictures that I saw it has)... as well as TV Out (for pictures only?)

It looks like Sprint may one-up Verizon! :D

I can't wait for these phones! Sprint's whole campaign is to completely wipe VZW from everyone's minds!

P.S. Tou, you left out the 3mp LG...

    Tou,

Thanks so much for all the information you provided. I'm getting a new phone soon and it's just a matter of how long I want to wait and what features to wait for. I'm probably going to lean toward Samsung or Sanyo, but I'm definitely getting a clamshell. Do you know which of the upcoming Sammys or Sanyo's will have the largest color outside screen? I'd love to see a screen that is almost as big as the outside of the clamshell but I doubt that's happening.

Any idea at all which model will have the largest one though?

The 3MP LG I am not confident enough to post about. I have heard about it, but also heard completely opposite (that LG will be leading the value segment). One thing that IS for sure is that the 545 was cancelled in favor of the Motorola E815-variant.

As far as screen sizes, Sanyo will most likely stick to it's same 2.1" 320x240/176x220 displays, and it's same vertically-oriented exterior display (5600). The Samsung blade will come with a 2.2 QVGA, with a small OLED (not E720-sized). Don't know about the A960, but I would guess the same display from the A800 (2" QVGA), as it is poised to be a small flip. The exterior OLED, however, will be larger than the Blades. The 5MP Samsung(s) should get the same 2.2" QVGA that goes into the Blade.

Thanks so much Tuo for both the info and speculation. Please keep us up to date on what you are hearing about the 960. Sounds like I'd prefer that one over the Blade due to the larger exterior screen(not sure I'd trust myself that I wouldn't break the Blade anyway).

I guess we're quite a way off then from say a 2 inch exterior screen?

So if the 920 is going to have Flash GUI, the biggest difference in the 960 over the 920 would just be OLED and QVGA? If so, I still may try to wait. Any guesses as to how many months I'll have to wait for the 960 after the 920 comes out?

    Thanks again for everything.

Hey T, as always, thanks for the latest info, you seem to always be on top of things.

If you had to guess, which Samsung (CDMA) phone do you think will come out this year? The SCH 250 or the SCH 7800?

    Thanks!
